MANILA--The ABL's lone Philippine representative will have a makeover in its moniker.
On Thursday, the club formerly known as the Powervit-Pilipinas Aguilas became the Pilipinas MX3 Kings as the team announced the name change.
The said development came as an implication of a change in the management of the team.
The Sports Legends Managers Inc. of Dick Balajadia achieved a full takeover of the franchise after boxing superstar and Mahindra playing coach Manny Pacquiao withdrew his support.
Originally named the Mindanao Aguilas by Zamboanga-based businessman Junnie Navarro, the team was eventually called Powervit-Pilipinas Aguilas when Pacquiao stepped in.
The ownership revamp also came with the change of the primary sponsor as the name MX3, a herbal supplement, will now appear in the squad's identity.
Aside from Balajadia taking full control of the team, the Kings will also have new faces in the management as former Ateneo Blue Eagle Jean Alabanza will become the new team manager, while PBA legend Chito Loyzaga will be the new team consultant.
Pilipinas-MX3 opened its ABL season with a win against fellow league newcomer Mono Vampire in Davao but was later pipped by Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
The team's renaming will be formalized on Sunday, when it will face defending champion Hi-Tech Bangkok at the San Juan Gymnasium.
