QUEZON CITY--Alaska kicked off a weekend full of basketball action at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with a bang.

The Aces banked on their balanced scoring to pip the GlobalPort Batang Pier, 123-104, in their PBA Philippine Cup clash on Friday night.

Starting a string of four games in three nights at "The Big Dome" capped by the UAAP semifinals on Saturday and Sunday, Alaska leaned on its depth to spoil Terrence Romeo's hot outing with the blowout win.

Cyrus Baguio led eight Aces in double figures with 17 points, while Vic Manuel contributed 16 off the bench. Kevin Racal made his PBA debut but was scoreless in a little over four minutes of play.

Romeo finished with 33 points on seven triples for the Batang Pier, who saw their three-game winning streak coming to an end.

Alaska moved up to 4-1, tying San Miguel at the top of the team standings. Talk 'n Text can join them at joint first with a win over NLEX later Friday night.
