HOUSTON--On Wednesday, Hall of Famer Kevin McHale was given the boot by the Houston Rockets.

With Houston having a dismal and atrocious start with a 4-7 win-loss record, McHale was relieved from his responsibilities as head coach. Assistant coach JB Bickerstaff will assume the head coaching position in an interim basis.

The Rockets have had poor games to start this season, losing by at least 20 points in their first three games, an NBA record. All in all, they have had 5 games losing by double digits and are currently on a four-game slide.

The Rockets had a players-only meeting a day ago to try and solve their on-court communication, especially on the defensive side.

Rockets GM Daryl Morey justified McHale’s firing due to players already losing trust to McHale’s system and the players are not responding anymore to the Hall of Fame mentor.

He said, "We had to make it soon. There is not time in the tough Western Conference to wait for a turnaround," although he admitted it was tough to fire McHale, who slowly brought the Rockets to championship contender status.

Houston is looking at Tom Thibodeau, Jeff Van Gundy, and Scott Brooks as potential long-term replacements for McHale.
