QUEZON CITY--NU and Adamson bludgeoned their respective opponents from the get-go to attain lopsided wins as Matchday 5 of the UAAP juniors basketball tournament happened at the Blue Eagle Gym on Saturday.
The Baby Falcons first delivered the blowout as they mauled the UST Tiger Cubs, 76-45, in the opening salvo.
Adamson limited UST to only three points in the first quarter and scorched for 33 in the third quarter to help achieve the 31-point winning margin.
Jayson Celis led four Baby Falcons in double figures with 17 points as they limited the Tiger Cubs to only 21.5 percent shooting and forced 34 turnovers.
Later in the day, it was the Bullpups' turn to pull off a smackdown as they trounced the UE Pages, 89-33.
NU opened a 32-4 lead over UE in the first quarter and, except for the second quarter where the team gave up 12, kept its opponent below ten in the ensuing frames.
John Clemente made all of his nine field goal attempts inside the three-point line and finished with 18 markers for the Bullpups, who have won for the fifth straight time this season.
It was actually all NU in the match as the team held UE to only 25 percent shooting while connecting 65.6 percent of its own shots, got the better in the rebounding department (43-21), dished out more assists (14-6), and even had more steals (4-2) and blocks (3-0).
In the other games, Ateneo survived a show from the Gomez De Liano Brothers to repulse UPIS, 74-67, and La Salle-Zobel bucked a poor second quarter and relied on a strong third period to down FEU-FERN, 67-55.
