SINGAPORE--Three Filipinos stepped inside the One Championship cage on Friday night trying to wow the fans at the Singapore Indoor Arena.
They failed to even last for five minutes.
The Philippine contingent for One's Pride of Lions event got defeated in just one round of their respective matches.
Edward Kelly fell prey to Australian-based Vietnamese opponent Martin Nguyen after the cage physician found Kelly unable to fight because of the damages he suffered in the first 4:17 of the fight.
Later, Kelly's previous opponent, Jimmy Yabo, lost at the hands of Singaporean MMA sensation Amir Khan via TKO at the 4:18 mark also of the very first round, giving the home crowd something to cheer about.
But the biggest loss for the Filipinos was in Natalie Hills' match against Angela Lee.
Lee even gave the Singaporean crowd more reasons to celebrate as the hometown heroine pulled off the stoppage of the night by going for the rarely used but tough to beat twister submission against Hills, forcing the latter to tap out midway through the opening five minutes.
Lee's breathtaking submission plus the epic five-round super fight between Yago Bryan and Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke won by the latter via unanimous decision made up for what could have been a more intense fight night should the supposed main event between Ben Askren and Luis Santos push through.
Santos decided to back out of their welterweight title fight earlier Friday after failing to make weight the night before and declining on a 190-pound catch weight offer from Askren.
