PASIG--The PhilSports Arena became home to the great battles between San Miguel and Ginebra during the late 80's and the early 90's.
In the latest chapter of their rivalry back at the said venue on Sunday night, the Beermen gave the Gin Kings a nightmare.
SMB pulled away in the second half to trounce Ginebra, 100-82, in their PBA Philippine Cup meeting.
The Beermen turned what was thought to be a close encounter to a laugher late in the third quarter, when they opened a 15-point cushion.
They eventually stretched the gap to as large as 23 points in the fourth quarter and never looked back.
Arwind Santos led San Miguel, which wrested the top of the team standings at 4-1, with 24 points, 20 coming in the first half.
On the other hand, Junemar Fajardo got the better of fellow Cebuano beanpole Greg Slaughter in their first meeting of the season by contributing 22 markers, 14 rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar each scored 21 for Ginebra, which failed to follow up on its first win last week in Dubai.
