After completing college basketball double, FEU sets sights on D-League return

SAN JUAN, MM--In just two weeks, FEU won two championships, the UAAP and the PCCL plums, capping a brilliant 2015 for the team.

But as 2016 approaches, Coach Nash Racela said that a PBA D-League appearance will be in store for the Tamaraws.

"The veterans will be playing in the D-League," Racela told some sportswriters about how FEU's team representing Phoenix Petroleum will shape up.

He actually said also that none of the players who got playing time in their PCCL match against USC will be part of the D-League squad as per a UAAP rule that only those who played at least two years in the league will become eligible for any amateur commercial league. Most of the players inserted for the national final, including eventual MVP Ken Holmqvist, just played their first UAAP season.

"We have nine or ten na eligible sa amin, and then there will be reinforcements," Racela counted the number of Tams playing for Phoenix including graduating stars Mike Tolomia, Mac Belo, and Roger Pogoy.

Meanwhile, Racela also revealed that he will take a step back in terms of who is going to lead the Phoenix squad.

"I'll be part of the team, but si Coach Eric Gonzales ang hahawak," he bared to the press.

FEU last played in the PBA D-League under the name MJM Builders in the 2015 Aspirants Cup.
