Gin Kings top Elite in double OT thriller

PBA

ANGELES—Ginebra needed nearly an hour before torching Blackwater, 102-94, in a PBA Philippine Cup double overtime thriller at the AUF Sports Center on Saturday night.

Greg Slaughter showed his might inside the paint, while rookie Scottie Thompson channeled his NCAA self as the Gin Kings made the Elite pay for bungling potential game-winners in the fourth quarter and the first extension.

With the game tied, 84-all, Jason Ballesteros drew a foul while going for a follow-up off a Reil Cervantes airball with 4.6 seconds left. Ballesteros, however, missed both charities, and Ginebra had 4.1 ticks to score.

But Jervy Cruz botched a triple at the regulation buzzer, sending the game to overtime.

The Elite then blew two chances in the last 28.5 seconds of the first extra time, further stretching the match to a second overtime.

The Kings then blasted them in the new five-minute period, 10-2, to escape with the win.

Slaughter tallied 35 points and 15 rebounds, while Thompson flirted with a triple-double by tallying nine points including a dagger triple in the last two minutes, nine rebounds, and six assists for Ginebra.
