McLaren stifles Striegl in huge One upset

By Ivan Saldajeno

PASAY—As an old saying goes, "It's not yet over until the fat lady sings."

Reece McLaren averted a second round blunder and forced Mark Striegl to a tap out in a big shocker in the co-main event of One: Spirit of Champions at the Mall of Asia Arena on Friday night.

The Australian fighter, a late replacement, nearly got knocked out by the Filipino foe in Round 2 but got second wind in the third, dominating him in the ground game and getting a rear-naked choke for the submission.

The loss was a back-breaker for Striegl, who appeared to be leading after two rounds.

Striegl, who is highly touted for a championship fight, lost for the second time in his stellar career, his first since his only world title shot against Kim Jang-Yong at PXC.
