MANDALUYONG--Over 300 calisthenics practitioners, some even coming from as far as Benguet, took part in the Battle of the Bars competition at the Sparta Center on Sunday.

The said event officially launched Sparta's calisthenics academy, providing fitness buffs an alternative to playing football inside the said venue.

Reo Minasalbas went home victorious in the solo freestyle category, while Dennis Deltow and Renier Barnuevo took the runner-up honors.

Meanwhile, Vincent Acuña took home the longest deadhang award and Tom Madrid also won a plum for the longest plank.

Henz Ledesma won the longest squat hold, while Joel Cataag posted the most number of consecutive pull-ups and Ezeciel Santos made the most number of consecutive muscle-ups.

Sparta consultant Ton Vergel De Dios hopes the said event will only be the start of things to come for not just the said place but also for calisthenics in general.

Vergel De Dios said, “We are looking forward to more events like this one, and we intend to keep growing the Calisthenics community here in the Philippines for advanced athletes but also for those who want to take the first step in starting their fitness journey. After all, it's all about progressing from wherever you are now to becoming a better version of yourself."
