PASAY--The Mall of Asia Arena will be hosting another huge international sporting event as it will be the site of the 2016 edition of one of the world's biggest e-sports tournament.

ESL announced on Monday night that the said venue will be home to ESL One, one of the top DOTA 2 tourneys worldwide, on April 23-24.

“Almost PHP12 million are up for grabs at our next installment of ESL One and we’re all hoping for a team local to the region to step up to the plate and take home the lion’s share,” said Ulrich Schulze, the vice president for pro gaming at ESL.

Schulze even said that the company did not have a hard time in picking the Philippines as the host nation next year.

He continued, “The Philippines have a strong history with DOTA 2, and so when discussing possible Asian events, the decision was an easy one to make. This is a country and community that loves DOTA 2, and we’re honored to be able to say we’re making history with this event: it’s the first event of its kind in the region and we can’t wait to see fan reactions to what we have in store.”

Top DOTA 2 teams from across the globe will participate in the said event. The Philippines, being the host country, is assured of at least one slot in the said competition.

ESL One has been in top sporting venues worldwide like the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt and the Madison Square Garden in New York. The MOA Arena will be the first ever Asian stop of ESL One.

Tickets will be on sale starting Tuesday night.
