Belingon bows to Fernandes in One title conquest

One Championship

MANILA—Kevin Belingon failed to become the third active Filipino world MMA champion after Brazilian Bibiano Fernandes forced him to tap out at the main event of One: Dynasty of Champions 3 at the Changsha Stadium on Saturday night.

Fernandes quickly took down Belingon after the opening bell and performed a Kimura lock, forcing the submission win.

Fernandes successfully defended his One bantamweight title in a rare title defense outside the Philippines, where he became an instant sensation.

With the result, One heavyweight belt holder Brandon Vera and PXC flyweight titlist Jenel Lausa remain the only Filipino MMA champions at present.

The other Filipino in the card, Roy Doliguez, also suffered a loss at the hands of Japan's Riku Shibuya.

Shibuya turned to his kicking and grappling prowess to score a unanimous decision victory over the former boxing champ.
