MANILA--Two top DOTA 2 teams doused cold water on their Filipino fans' hopes of seeing them compete as early as summer.
EG and Secret announced their respective decisions to decline their invitations to the ESL One tournament on April 23-24 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
EG first made its decision on Tuesday as team captain Peter Dager tweeted, "Turned down the invite to ESL Manila. I'm sure an awesome team will take our place and it will be a great tournament regardless."
Secret then announced its own begging off on Wednesday as it replied to a tweet from one of its fans saying, "Unfortunately we have already declined their invite, sorry!"
However, both Secret, one of the pre-tournament favorites in TI5, and EG, the eventual champion, expressed their intent of joining the Manila Major in June.
Dager concluded his tweet, "[See you] at [Manila] Major," while Secret's own tweet continued, "We will hopefully be seeing you at the Manila Major."
The Manila Major will be the third major DOTA 2 tournament of the 2016 season and the last before all roads lead to the Key Arena in Seattle for the season-ending TI6.
