KUALA LUMPUR--Malaysian fighter Ev Ting spoiled what could have been a total domination by the Filipino pugs lined up for One: Clash of Heroes at the Negara Stadium on Friday night.
The hometown hero did not disappoint his compatriots after forcing Eric Kelly to a mounted guillotine submission at the 1:58 mark of the third round of the main event of the fight card renamed the "Malaysia Warrior Bout".
Ting actually started pounding Kelly right in the very first round, scoring on great strikes and forcing his opponent to a defensive stance for most of the fight.
Ting finally got his winning moment when he adjusted his standing guillotine and forced the mounted one on Kelly, forcing the tapout.
Ting, in the process, earned a sweep of his two matches against the Kelly Brothers as he also beat Edward Kelly earlier in his career.
After the win, Ting set his sights on the One featherweight title being held by Marat Gafurov.
“Marat Gafurov I’m coming for you, where is that belt at?” Ting called out the reigning champ after the match.
Eric Kelly's loss softened the impact of a good day for the Philippine contingent in the One Championship event.
Eduard Folayang made a successful return to the cage after scoring a unanimous decision win over Japanese foe Tetsuya Yamada in the co-main event.
On the other hand, Geje Eustaquio did not show rust despite a prolonged layoff brought about by the untimely death of supposed opponent Yang Jian Bing when he knocked out Saiful Merican just 81 seconds into their clash set at a 147-pound catchweight.
