MANILA--The online gaming industry in the Philippines will go another notch up as no less than Valve, the company behind the worldwide sensation DOTA 2, announced that the country will host the third international major tournament of the 2016 season.
Valve announced in DOTA 2's official website on Tuesday that the Philippines will host the Spring Majors in June and will be named the "Manila Majors".
The said tournament will pit some of the world's best online gaming clubs for a total pot amounting to at least US$3 million (around PHP141 million).
Further details about the Manila Majors will be revealed on March 6, right at the end of the Shanghai Majors, the second major DOTA tournament of the 2016 season. The season started late last year in Frankfurt.
The Mall of Asia Arena, which will host the ESL One tournament in April, is expected to be a frontrunner for the venue hosting rights for the Manila Majors.
The Manila Majors will be the final DOTA 2 major tournament before the season-ending The International 6 in Seattle in August.
