MANILA--The SBP thanked FIBA's executive committee for giving the Philippines the right to host one of three Olympic qualifying tournaments on July 4-10.
In an official statement on Tuesday night, SBP said, "SBP wishes to express its gratitude to FIBA and its Executive Committee for giving us one of the hosting rights for the Rio Olympics Qualifying. We are indeed pleased and privileged to receive this news."
SBP then vowed to FIBA that it will host the OQT, the first of its kind, with a bang.
"I wish to convey to FIBA President Horacio Muratore and Secretary General Patrick Baumann SBP's assurances that it will do its best in making the event worthy of an Olympic event," the statement continued.
With Gilas Pilipinas assured of a hosting slot, the SBP also wished the national team well in the major tournament.
"We wish our Smart Gilas team Godspeed in its quest to be part of the Olympic movement again. Laban Pilipinas! Puso!" the SBP concluded the statement.
