MANILA--Action in the second semester in the UAAP Season 78 opens this weekend with three sports at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Softball, which Adamson University dominated in the last five years, blasts off with a tripleheader on Saturday at the baseball stadium, while lawn tennis, which National University’s men’s team lorded it over for the last three seasons, begins with five ties at the newly-refurbished tennis center on the same day.
Ateneo, meanwhile, seeks to rule for the fourth straight year as the baseball tournament opens on Sunday at the Malate venue.
As the Lady Falcons, who are perfect in 62 matches, drew an opening day bye, hostilities begin with last season’s runner-up University of the Philippines taking on the Lady Eagles at 9 a.m., while University of the East and University of Santo Tomas face off at 11 a.m., and De La Salle battling the Lady Bulldogs at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Bidding for a six-peat, Adamson University plays the Tigresses on Monday at 9 a.m.
Winners of 33 straight ties which is currently the second longest streak in all UAAP sports, NU seeks to sustain its perfect men’s lawn tennis run against Ateneo in Courts 1, 2 and 3 at 11 a.m. on Saturday, right after the Red Warriors-Fighting Maroons tie at 8 a.m. UST and De La Salle collide in the last tie at 2 p.m.
In the women’s division at Courts 4, 5 and 6, the Tigresses clash with the Lady Eagles at 8 a.m. while the Lady Archers and the Lady Maroons battle at 12 noon on Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs open their quest for another title in the distaff side against the Lady Maroons on Sunday at 8 a.m.
Ateneo takes on Adamson University in the third game of a baseball tripleheader on Sunday right after the UP-UST and De La Salle-NU matches. First pitch is scheduled at 7 a.m.
Softball is played every Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, baseball is held on Thursdays and Sundays, while lawn tennis is scheduled on weekends and a couple of holiday playdates. The Finals of the three sports will be aired on ABS-CBN Sports+Action.
