QUEZON CITY--San Miguel's star center Junemar Fajardo suffered a knee injury in Game 6 of the club's PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series against Rain Or Shine on Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Fajardo went for a rebound with 7:11 remaining in the third quarter of the said match when Jireh Ibañes accidentally bumped him, bending his knee awkwardly.
Fajardo was rushed to the St. Luke's Medical Center in Taguig for an MRI and never returned to the game.
The 6-10 beanpole and reigning two-time MVP said to the Beermen's staff that he felt a "pop" inside his left knee when he fell down during the rebounding sequence, triggering fears that he may have suffered an ACL injury.
The result of the MRI is expected as soon as Saturday, a day before SMB, the defending Philippine Cup titlist, returns to the court, either against ROS in the deciding Game 7 of the semifinals or against Alaska in Game 1 of the finals.
Fajardo's injury also took a toll in Gilas' preparation for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament as he was named to the national team's training pool.
