MANILA--UST started a probe on its men's basketball team just as rumors began circulating about its current state.
A report by the school's official publication The Varsitarian quoted Athletic Director Ermito De Sagon as saying the investigation is on whether the Growling Tigers program is still adhering to the university's policies.
The probe came at the heels of recent news about some of the Tigers getting involved in huge issues.
A report by Fastbreak.com.ph said that some UST players and even coaching staff members were involved in game-fixing especially during the UAAP Finals, where they lost to FEU.
Kevin Ferrer, one of the King Tigers last year, denied on CNN Philippines' Sports Desk program his involvement in the alleged point shaving.
Some articles also surfaced regarding Coach Bong Dela Cruz's alleged abuse on his younger players.
De Sagon said he gave Dela Cruz some time off from joining UST's practices but denied that he already fired him as coach.
