PASAY--Defending champion Ateneo and Adamson forged a three-way tie with NU for the men's lead at 4-1 after besting their respective foes in the UAAP men's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.
Reigning MVP Marck Espejo scored all but one of his 13 points from spikes as the Blue Eagles downed UP, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21, while the Falcons, behind Michael Sudaria's 16 hits and eight digs, subdued La Salle, 25-6, 24-26, 32-30, 27-25.
Adamson University coach Domingo Custodio was happy the way his troops played in extending its winning run to four games.
"Hiningi ko lang sa kanila yung blocking at receive, yung palo, mahuhusay ang mga iyan," said Custodio, whose Falcons survived marathon third and fourth sets to prevail. "Sinasanay ko run any mga iyan sa pahabaan ng resistensiya."
The Fighting Maroons fell to 3-2 in fourth, while the Green Spikers stumbled to their fourth loss in five contests.
