Ateneo extends winning streak, downs struggling Adamson

PASAY--The Adamson University Lady Falcons continued their downward spiral as they became the latest victims of the defending champions Ateneo Lady Eagles, who cruised to their fifth straight win this season in three sets, 25-19, 25-23, 25-16, at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.

Adamson kept it close with Ateneo during the early part of the first set with only two points separating the two squads, 16-14, entering the second technical timeout.

The Lady Eagles, courtesy of their balance offense, caused the Lady Falcons' defense to crumble, eventually sealing the first set.

Mylene Paat and May Roque tried their best to carry the offensive chores for Adamson in the second set, even leading by two, 9-7, early on.

But Ateneo pulled a 4-0 run to snatch the lead from Adamson, 11-9.

The Lady Falcons tried to upset the Lady Eagles, equaling at 23, but committed crucial errors during the last two points care of Erica Alkuino.

The Lady Eagles can smell victory as it sucked the life out of the Lady Falcons during the third set.

The Lady Falcons had a difficult time reading Ateneo’s offense as each player from the Katipunan-based squad contributed points.

It was a total team effort for Ateneo as Alyssa Valdez was in her usual scoring form tallying a team-high 23 points while receiving support from veteran Amy Ahomiro and sophomore Maddie Madayag who scored nine and eight points respectively.
