FEU goes back on track with mauling of UST

SAN JUAN, MM--The FEU Lady Tamaraws had fought tooth and nail before finally prevailing over the UST Golden Tigresses in a tight four-setter 25-22, 25-18, 15-25, 25-23, as the women's volleyball season in the UAAP concluded its Saturday showcase at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Toni Basas had 19 attack points for the Morayta spikers as they recover from last Wednesday's setback against Ateneo to return to .500 in the team standings at 2-2, while the 16 markers of Mela Tunay were not enough for the Espana volleybelles as they are dragged down to the cellar with their 3rd straight setback this season.

Both FEU and UST opened the match both with intensity as they traded points up to the end part of the opening canto.

UST even led by two, 18-16, prior to Basas’ efforts to tie the game. Cherry Rondina had an error that resulted to UST losing the 1st set.

FEU built on its first set momentum and jumped on UST in the second set.

EJ Laure tried to keep her team in the set but the Lady Tamaraws’ lead was too much for the Tigresses to overcome.

In the third set, Tunay, Rondina, and Laure took charge in hopes of salvaging the game for their squad. The trio managed to give UST a set.

The fourth set was anybody’s set as both team traded momentum, but in the end, FEU proved to be the tougher team as UST’s error during the end game caused them not only the set but the match.
