MANILA--Global turned back Loyola, 2-0, in the nightcap of the UFL Cup triple-header at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Arthur Kouassi put Global on the board in the 38th minute, while Omid Nazari added one more in the 52nd as the club clobbered Loyola defensively, making the latter feel the absence of star striker Phil Younghusband more.
Younghusband, who is currently nursing an injury, suited up for the match, but Coach Simon McMenemy opted to sit him out for the entire match.
Global solidified its hold of second place in Group B with its ninth point of the competition as the win gave the team some momentum ahead of its pivotal Thursday night showdown with group-leading Ceres at the said venue. Ceres eked out a 3-2 win over Green Archers earlier Saturday.
