PBA

PASIG--PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa did not hesitate in giving Talk 'n Text import Ivan Johnson the executioner's ax after the latter had some choice words to the former in the second quarter of the team's Commissioner's Cup match against Meralco on Saturday.

The league chief meted the feisty foreign recruit with a lifetime ban plus a PHP250 thousand fine after the former NBA veteran vented his ire on the former coach following a flagrant foul.

With 4:26 left in the first half, Johnson gave Byan Faundo a hard foul with the Tropa up, 26-25. The referees assessed the call as a flagrant foul.

Johnson, however, went to Narvasa and protested the call to him with some words the commissioner said were too harsh, leading to a technical foul, his second in the game, and the ejection.

"For addressing the Commissioner with profanities and showing utter disrespect for authority, Tropang TNT import Ivan Johnson has been banned from the PBA and fined P250,000," Narvasa's complete statement said.

Johnson, who was playing only his first PBA game this year, was suspended for TNT's conference opener against Blackwater after he punched Frank Golla in their tune-up match two weeks ago along with a PHP50 thousand fine.

This is the second time Johnson, known for having temper problems, was given a lifetime ban after the KBL also handed him the stiff penalty in 2010.
