HONG KONG--Kaya’s tenacity was not
enough as the reigning UFL Cup champion bowed down, 0-1, to AFC Cup veterans Kitchee in their first match of the tournament at the Mong Kok Stadium on Tuesday night.
Kenshiro Daniels had a clear cut chance for Kaya at the 20th minute, but he blew his shot wide.
Kaya’s goalkeeper Matt Acton was terrific all
throughout the match. He has made superb saves and most of them in
the first half.
After a fast paced first half, both
sides gradually decreased their tempo.
Kaya captain Aly Borromeo almost gave
the club the lead in the 59th minute with his header, but it
was superbly saved by the Kitchee keeper.
Rufino Segovia was struggling to put
his shots in the back of the net. However he got his break after Kaya
gives away a questionable penalty in the 69th minute.
Kaya pushed
forward in search of the equalizer. Sadly, it was up to no avail as
Kitchee controlled the possession in the last twenty minutes of the
game.
