TAGUIG—All it took was a penalty save to ignite La Salle's final push.
The Green Booters score two clutch goals to stun the Ateneo Blue Booters, 3-1, in their UAAP men's football match on Sunday night at the McKinley Hill Stadium.
Carlos Joseph scored the game-winner with less than a minute left in regulation, while Gelo Diamante put the icing on the cake three minutes into added time.
But nothing was more important than Paeng De Guzman's stoppage of Emilio Acosta's spot kick.
The sophomore goalie saved Acosta's penalty try in the 86th minute. He would hold on to the ball when the substitute looked to follow up on his miss, keeping the scoreline at 1-all.
The save paved the way for the Green Booters to be reenergized in time for crunch time.
Jan Cruz found Joseph inside the box in the 90th minute for the go-ahead conversion even as Diamante added one more with two minutes left in the match.
The win capped a sweep of the men's-women's doubleheader as La Salle's distaff side downed that of Ateneo, 4-3, also on a last-minute goal earlier Sunday.
