PASAY--The University of Santo Tomas Tigresses escaped a five-set thriller against the National University Lady Bulldogs, 25-14, 25-18, 17-25, 19-25, 15-12, in their UAAP women's volleyball clash at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday night.
UST’s energy bunny Cherry Rondina scored 10 points during the opening set alone, single-handedly catching NU unaware of her offensive prowess that came even from the service line.
The second set also belonged to the Tigresses as Rodina received offensive support from sophomore team captain EJ Laure.
NU came back swinging during the third set as the team dictated the tempo of the set early on.
Myla Pablo and Jaja Santiago carried the scoring load for the Lady Bulldogs as they did not allow the Tigresses to get their defensive form.
NU's momentum carried up to the fourth set as Jorelle Singh joined the comeback effort. The Lady Bulldogs managed to tie the game two set apiece.
During the fifth set, both team traded points, but it was a late game collapse from National University that cost them not only the set but also the match with a hitting error by Singh.
Rondina and Laure finished with 21 points each, while towering Jaja Santiago topped scored for NU with 23 markers.
