QUEZON CITY--National University faces its first major test against defending
champion Far Eastern University on Thursday in the UAAP Season 78 men's
football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo Field inside the Ateneo
campus.
After beating two lower-ranked foes, the Bulldogs need to
elevate their game and clinch another three points in the 3 p.m. duel
with the Tamaraws.
Tied with NU on top of the league table with six points, De
La Salle also seeks to sustain its impressive start as it plays
University of Santo Tomas at 1 p.m.
Nico Macapal, the league's leading goalscorer with three, and
Paolo Salenga, will be the Bulldogs' main men.
NU opened its bid with a 4-0 thumping of University of the East
followed by a 2-0 tripping of Adamson University over the weekend.
After battling to a scoreless draw against University of the
Philippines, FEU regrouped with a 5-2 drubbing of Ateneo.
The Tamaraws, who are tied with the Growling Tigers with four
points, will bank on Val Jurao, Paolo Bugas and rookie Rico Andes.
The Green Archers, last season's runner-up, were impressive in
those two wins against the Blue Eagles and the Fighting Maroons.
Holdovers Jed Diamante and Greggy Yang are solid contributors
for De La Salle, while rookie Jigs Cruz is also making his presence
felt in the tournament.
AJ Pasion is making the most out of his UST debut.
He scored a
goal in the Tigers' 2-1 win against the Falcons and fared well when
his side battled to a goalless draw with the Red Warriors.
