QUEZON CITY--Katipunan rivals University of the Philippines and Ateneo try claim full points and crash in the upper half of the table on Thursday in the resumption of the UAAP Season 78 men's football tournament.
Kick off is at 1 p.m. to be followed by the match between bottom squads Adamson University and University of the East at 3 p.m. at the Moro Lorenzo Field.
Two of the pre-tournament favorites who struggled big time early in the season, the Fighting Maroons are in fifth spot with four points, one clear of the sixth-running Blue Eagles.
The winner of the UP-Ateneo tussle will get past defending champion Far Eastern University, which is fourth spot with five points.
De La Salle is leading the eight-team field with 10 points, followed by University of Santo Tomas (8) and National University (7).
The last season's semifinalists are coming off first wins, as the Maroons blanked the Red Warriors, 2-0, while the Eagles overpowered the Falcons, 4-0.
UP is still feeling the huge void left by ace striker Jinggoy Valmayor, looking to a new go-to guy to count on offense.
Despite its not-so good record to open the season, Ateneo has showed promise, with rookie Jarvey Gayoso nailing three goals this season.
UE, with only a point to show, is still goalless after three matches, while Adamson University has already yielded eight goals this season.
