MANILA--UP winger Rogie Maglinas lost his battle against cancer on Tuesday, five days before the UAAP football season even kicked off. He was 19.

The Masbate native, whose battle with Rhabdomyosarcoma gained widespread attention in the footballing community, played first for the UMak Herons for two years before playing two more years for the Fighting Maroons in UAAP, where they finished runners-up to FEU in his first year.

Maglinas played a crucial role in nabbing the Ang Liga Cup last year, assisting the lone goal in the final vs UE.

On his passing, tributes poured in not just from the UP sporting community, but also by the Filipino footballing world.
