Colombia sends Philippines to bottom of UWH men's table

STELLENBOSCH--The Philippines capped what has been a "Bad Friday" for the team in the CMAS Underwater Hockey World Championship with the men's team's devastating loss to Colombia on a late Good Friday night (Philippine Time).

The Colombians, who suffered a bad beat to the Dutch squad earlier Friday, bludgeoned the Filipinos, 11-0, for their first win in the masters men's category.

The lopsided result propelled Colombia to fourth place in the division standings, ahead of host country South Africa on goals scored but behind Australia and the Netherlands on goal difference.

On the other hand, the Philippines crashed to the cellar of the tournament table with its second straight blowout loss at the end of Day 1 of the competition. Canada is actually winless as well after two games but is ahead of the Philippines on goal difference.

On the other hand, the Philippines' first tormentor, France, zoomed to the provisional top spot with a 6-0 blanking of USA.

France now has a perfect four points entering a bye on Saturday, but either Australia or the Netherlands can get a share of first place as they square off at 6:50 p.m. (Philippine Time) on the same day, playing simultaneously with the Philippines-USA tiff.
