FEU, UP look to boost Final Four bid as UAAP football returns

By Dugout Philippines

QUEZON CITY—Defending champion Far Eastern University seeks to seize the top of the UAAP Season 78 men's football table as it plays Adamson University on Thursday at the Moro Lorenzo Field.

Riding on crest of a four-match winning streak, the Tamaraws are heavily favored in the 4 p.m. clash with the Falcons.

University of the Philippines tries to break free from a three-way tie in fourth place against winless University of the East at 2 p.m. in the resumption of the tournament after a 11-day Lenten break.

Tied with idle La Salle in second place at 17 points, FEU is ahead in goal difference as it tries to dislodge idle University of Santo Tomas (18 points) for the lead.

Aside from their superb attacking game led by rookie striker Rico Andes, Coach Kim Chul-Su's side has only conceded a goal once during that winning streak, making them more dangerous.

Adamson University hopes to deliver a better effort after losing heavy 0-7 scorelines against National University and Ateneo to open its second round campaign.

The Fighting Maroons are level with the Bulldogs and the Blue Eagles with 15 points and a convincing result will boost their Final Four bid.

Daniel Gadia, who got his first national team call-up in the Philippines' stunning 3-2 win over North Korea in last Tuesday's FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifier match, will lead the way for UP.

The Falcons and the Red Warriors are mired at the bottom of the table with three and one point, respectively.
