MANILA—Possession-hungry GAU won against
Pasargad, 3-1, in a rare Friday night UFL Cup bout at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
GAU started off great as Chieffy Caligdong
scored the opening goal of the match in the fifth minute. Caligdong picked up a misplaced pass and surged into the penalty box for the goal.
Jhan-Jhan Melliza made it 2-0 for the Green
Archers in the 16th minute as he picked up a good pass from Caligdong inside the penalty box.
Pasargad’s super sub Ogochukwu Ebere got one goal back as he picked
up a nice pass surging inside the penalty box in the 60th minute.
Ebere almost gave Pasargad’s equalizer in
the 73th minute when he had a one-on-one chance with GAU keeper Kim
Versales only to botch it.
Just a minute after Ebere’s attempt,
Chieffy Caligdong gave Green Archers their third goal off a free kick. The
former Azkal star smoothly curled the ball to the back of the net for the dagger.
