SAN JUAN CITY--FEU gained leverage in the tight race for the last two postseason slots after downing UST in four sets, 20-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-20 as the UAAP Women's Volleyball Tournament resumed from its Lenten break on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Arena.

Bernadette Pons top-scored for the Lady Tamaraws with 20 markers on the strength of 17 spikes and 2 service aces and was backed up by Mary Rose Basas who contributed 12 as the Morayta spikers move up to 7-5 but are still at fourth with third placed UP playing against NU as of posting.

Freshmen Cherry Rondina leads the way for the Tigresses once again with 19 points but they are in danger in missing the postseason for the fourth consecutive season, as they slipped below .500 with two games left in their season at 5-7

Coach Shaq Delos Santos tried to surprise the opponent by fielding in Kyle Negrito has his starting setter.

His experiment backfired as Kung Fu Reyes' ladies had a fiery start, getting the lead in every technical timeout. Gyzelle Sy entered the set trying to set a comeback, but UST’s strong start were too much for the Lady Tams as the España spikers surprisingly took the first set.

FEU got its offensive game going in the second set as they displayed their full arsenal as Pons and co. even the match with the identical score in the first.

Then in the third set, the Lady Tamaraws blasted UST throughout the set, limiting them to single digits in the technical timeouts en route to an easy win and the lead in the match.

UST’s Carmella Tunay tried spearheading a rally for the Tigresses in the later stretch in the fourth but a costly mishit tip by Alina Bicar gave the Tamaraws a glimmer of hope of making it to the Final Four.
