MANILA--In a rare practice for PBA clubs, Meralco handed a one-game suspension on Gary David after an incident involving him and Coach Norman Black late into its game against NLEX won by the latter on Friday night.

In an official statement on Sunday night as posted in its official website, the Bolts handed the sanction to the former national team guard as a consequence for insubordination, lack of dedication to the team, and breach of contract after he begged himself off from reentering the match against the Road Warriors despite Black's orders.

Also, an undisclosed fine was meted on David for the said matter.

Meralco's management, however, clarified, "The Bolts still support Gary as a member of the team, but sanctions have to be imposed to maintain discipline and alignment with Meralco’s team culture."
