Philippines suffers losses in UWH openers

STELLENBOSCH--France proved to be too much for the Philippines in both team's first game in the master men's division of the CMAS Underwater Hockey World Championship on Friday.

The Philippine contingent, the lone Asian squad in the nine-team field, lost, 0-5, to France in the said match.

Backed by the Philippine Underwater Hockey Confederation, the Philippine team will next face Colombia, an 2-8 loser to the Netherlands in a game played simultaneously with the Philippines-France tiff, later Friday.

On the other hand, the distaff side also suffered a defeat in its own debut, losing to Germany, 0-4, in an Elite Women's Group B action.

The Philippine team will next face host country South Africa on Saturday at 1:50 p.m. (Philippine Time).
