PASAY—San Beda stomped its class anew over Lyceum in an all-NCAA affair in the NBTC National Finals at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday night.
The Red Cubs led from the get-go and outscored the Junior Pirates, 25-8, in the third period to pull away for good.
Addie Velasquez came off the bench to lead the reigning NCAA champ with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while Germy Mahinay added 12 points and 13 rebounds before Coach JB Sison pulled him and the rest of the starters out midway into the second half.
Kobe Camacho had 14 points and five rebounds, while Erlan Umpad tallied four blocks including two against Sam Abu Hijeh in a span of two seconds for Lyceum, which made a surprise postseason run in the NCAA last year.
Prior to that, former NCAA guest team AUF pulled away in the second half to trounce Linao High, 68-52, in Division 2 play.
