Alabang Eagles claw Nomads in SPI 15's

By Dugout Philippines

PARAÑAQUE–The Alabang Eagles hung on to survive an insurgent Nomads rugby team to win, 17-12, in the second round of the SPI 15's on Saturday.

The Eagles scored two converted tries and a penalty of their own to show why they are the reigning cup champions.

The Eagles actually dominated the first half of play and were unlucky not to score out wide on two occasions.

Nomads stormed back in the second half and played the game up the middle, this frustrated the Eagles who gave up several penalties that allowed the radar boot of Kai Stroem to convert three second half penalty shots and bring them back in the game.

The CBRE Mavericks, after a disappointing start to their SPI 15's stint last week, had a convincing win over the Albay Vulcans, 29-5, in the plate division.

The CBRE Mavericks backline included four players from the Volcanoes U19s team, and they proved too classy for the Vulcans.

The CBRE Lady Mavericks also had great success over the QCPU Ladies, winning their game, 45-5.

The bowl division was very close again this week with the Extinct Volcanoes narrowly defeating QCPU, 20-17, and the Alabang Loros hanging on to defeat the Subic Sharks, 36-32.

Jovan Masalunga, PRFU's Head of Development, commented, “It was a great weekend of rugby for the PRFU! Some close fought games but the stand out game was when Nomads almost snatched the game from the Eagles!”

Round 3 of the SPI 15s League takes place this Saturday from 11:30 a.m. at Southern Plains in Calamba.
