MANILA--The Philippine men’s football team, buoyed by its come-from-behind victory over North Korea in its final 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier match, rose to its highest ever FIFA world ranking of 116.

One of the highest risers in this month’s ranking list, the Philippines jumped 19 spots to land virtually tied with Kazakhstan with 300 ranking points.

With the move in ranking, they are now 16th best in Asia and regained the top spot in the ASEAN region from Thailand who dropped down a notch three spots behind the Azkals

There are no scheduled matches for them for the month of April, although they are slated to face Kyrgyzstan in an away-and-home tiff on September 16 and November 9.

The next major tournament the Filipino male booters have in their schedule is the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup, in which the country will host the group stage matches of Group B.

They are also qualified to the third round of qualifications for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
