QUEZON CITY--Defending champion Far Eastern University seeks to extend its winning run to seven as it takes on National University on Thursday in the UAAP Season 78 men's football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo Field.
Still on top of the league table with 23 points, a victory by the Tamaraws over the Bulldogs in the 2 p.m. match will further boost their bid of making it to the Final Four.
University of the Philippines, running second behind FEU with 20 points, tangles with Katipunan neighbor Ateneo in the day's other fixture at 4 p.m.
The FEU-NU clash will feature two of the leading goalscorers in Rico Andes and Paolo Salenga.
A leading contender for the Rookie of the Year honors, Andes tallied eight goals this season, three behind Salenga, who has scored a league-best 11 goals.
The sixth-running Bulldogs are in dire need of a win to stay in the hunt for qualification in the semifinals.
With 15 points, NU is three off joint fourth placers Ateneo and idle University of Santo Tomas (18 points) with four matches remaining on its elimination round schedule.
Just like the Tamaraws, the Fighting Maroons are peaking at the right time, picking up two wins and a draw in the second round to vault in second place in the table.
The Blue Eagles got a boost in their Final Four bid last weekend, beating the Growling Tigers in a six-goal thriller to crash in the Top 4.
