Finals MVP a bonus for rising star Dy

QUEZON CITY--In what would be their swan song in the UAAP, graduating La Salle players Ara Galang, Mika Reyes, Kim Fajardo, and Cyd Demecillo were expected to put up big numbers in Game 3 of the finals against Ateneo on Saturday.

But Kianna Dy shone the brightest.

Dy led the Lady Spikers with 17 points to give them their ninth UAAP women's volleyball title and end the Ateneo Lady Eagles' reign.

Dy's explosion added by consistent numbers in the first two games of the best-of-three series gave her the Finals MVP honor.

But for her, it was teamwork that pushed La Salle to the title.

"I think [winning the Finals MVP is] a bonus talaga. Everyone should have this. It's a team effort," Dy told some sportswriters after she was recognized for the feat.

Dy, whose late bloom came at an opportune time for the Lady Spikers, had Coach Ramil De Jesus to thank for the continuous trust.

"Hindi siya nag-stop sa pagtulong sa akin," she further said.

"Very deserving," De Jesus described Dy's feat in an interview with the media people later Saturday.

Now that Dy will be the main gunner for La Salle come Season 79, Galang believes she can lead the team to another title.

"Kayang-kaya niya yan. Sobrang laki ng tiwala ko at ng team sa kanya," the graduating open spiker said in particular.
