QUEZON CITY-- Freshman Jarvey Gayoso continued his stellar start to his UAAP career as Ateneo overcame archrivals La Salle, 1-0 as the men's football tournament continued today at the Moro Lorenzo field.
The freshmen centre forward struck in the 17th minute and the Blue Booters held their defensive nerve to snatch all three points for JP Merida for the second consecutive time to leapfrog past their victims at third with 24 points after 13 matches.
Hans-Peter Smit's Green Booters fell down to fourth with 23 points but will have two matches to spare in their schedule.
Ateneo's win today formally eliminated NU from postseason contention as the latter can only muster 22 points from their last two matches.
The Blue Booters also ended their seven-match winless run against their nemesis, with their last win was way back in Season 75, where Val Calvo scored the sole goal in a 1-0 win, also at the Moro Lorenzo.
