QUEZON CITY--Although already eliminated from the PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinal contention, GlobalPort came out to play on Friday night.
The Batang Pier clamped the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 125-118, to oust the latter from their own playoff bid at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
GlobalPort, which decided to put Assistant Coach John Cardel in charge of the entire match, opened a double-digit lead late in the first half and held it for the rest of the game to hold off Phoenix.
Shawn Taggart fired 45 points, while Terrence Romeo added 40 for the Batang Pier, who finished their campaign at 3-8.
RR Garcia made 21 points for the Fuel Masters in a game where Kevin Pinkney was limited to just 11.
