QUEZON CITY--Jordi Gomez De Liaño had one of the best games of his budding high school career as UP got past Ateneo in the nightcap of the PhilHealth-City Hoops Preseason Cup action at the AFP Wellness Center on Sunday.
The youngest of the Junior Maroons' star brothers delivered 11 points, seven rebounds, and two steals as his team escaped the strong bid of the debuting Blue Eaglets, consisting of players vying for the UAAP team slots that are to be vacated by the likes of Jolo Mendoza and Gian Mamuyac, in their U17 match-up to take solo second in the team standings at 3-1.
In the other U17 match-up on Sunday, Sacred Heart-Nova took down Lourdes, 63-49, to bounce back from a 60-73 defeat to AMA the day before at the latter's homecourt.
Meanwhile, AMA's U15 team pulled a major upset after stunning La Salle Greenhills, 62-43, earlier Sunday.
In another shocker over the weekend, Fruitas-JCA blew past Ateneo Prada, 28-25, in a U13 action also on Saturday.
