Kaya blanks Balestier on the road to stay atop AFC Cup group

By Philip Maranan

SINGAPORE- Kaya FC’s relentless counter attacks shut Balestier Khalsa down, 3-0, in their AFC Cup bout at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Tuesday night.

Alfred Osei, Kenshiro Daniels and Louis Clark scored vital strikes for Joel Villarino as they tamed the Tigers again following its 1-0 win in their first meeting in Manila last month.

Kaya broke the deadlock in the 15th minute through the Ghanian who heads it home off Daniels' corner into the unmarked net.

Ten minutes later, Daniels doubled Kaya's advantage as he tucked in a nice cross from Jovin Bedic and surged ahead to beat Zaiful Nizam and into the back of the net.

In the 64th minute, Balestier had an opportunity to get back on the game off the penalty after Masanari Omura fouled Miroslav Kristic inside the box.

However, goalkeeper Matt Acton denied the Serbian to keep the two goal cushion.

Substitute Clark then sealed the all three points in the nine minutes later, when  slotted in a long ball from inside the box after beating the offside trap.

Witht the win, Kaya remained on top of Group F with nine points, two points ahead of Kitchee, which won 2-0 away at Maldives' New Radiant earlier today.
