La Salle ousts NU in final UAAP women's volleyball preliminary

SAN JUAN, MM—La Salle blew up NU's hopes of making the UAAP women's volleyball Final Four with a 25-14, 21-25, 25-19, 25-15 victory in the last game of the eliminations at the FilOil Flying V Centre on Wednesday night.

The Lady Spikers opened the match waxing hot, taking a 14-5 lead in Set 1 en route to the smooth set win.

Coach Roger Gorayeb then made an interesting lineup amendment, pulling Myla Pablo, who was off in the match, and putting Jasmine Nabor and Aiko Urdas, who usually sub for each other, together at the same time.

It worked wonders as the Lady Bulldogs stole Set 2 and had a good start in Set 3.

La Salle, however, broke out of a close clash midway into the set and got the match lead.

NU stayed in step in Set 4, but Ara Galang, Kim Dy, and Mika Reyes joined forces for the game-ending 9-0 run to end La Salle's elimination campaign on a high note following a heartbreaking five-set defeat to Ateneo.

Dy finished with a career-high 25 points on 15 spikes, five blocks, and five aces for the second-seeded Lady Spikers, who will next face the FEU Lady Tamaraws in the semifinals on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Jaja Santiago scored 14 markers for the Lady Bulldogs, whose elimination handed the UP Lady Maroons the last semis berth and formalized their pairing with the top-ranked Ateneo Lady Eagles on Saturday.

Pablo only tallied two points in her final UAAP game.
