MANILA- Loyola turned up the heat midway into the second half to defeat JP Voltes 2-0 for
the UFL Plate on a hot Saturday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Two goals in sixteen minutes by Tahj Minniecon and Jinggoy Valmayor was enough for Simon Mcmenemy to retain the Plate they last won in 2011.
Early on, Loyola was the attacking force.
The men in orange entered the opposing penalty box on numerous occasions.
However, despite the amount of chances
created by Loyola, the first half ended goalless thanks to Voltes custodian Nelson
Gasic who was in stellar form.
The Sparks kept their attacking stance in
opening minutes of the second half. Gasic however, kept his
composure by making key stops five minutes into the restart.
Finally, the former Western Sydney Wanderer broke the deadlock eleven minutes later as he broke free
inside the penalty box and shot his goal to the bottom corner.
Loyola continued to dominate the game and
on the 77th minute, as the former Fighting Maroon sealed their win by doubling their lead after
he slotted his rebound to the bottom left corner of the unguarded net.
