AMA averts collapse, stuns Ateneo Prada in City Hoops U-17 semi

QUEZON CITY--AMA bucked the inside presence of Kai Sotto and stunned Ateneo Prada, 76-65, in the PhilHealth-City Hoops Preseason Cup U-17 semifinal at the AFP Wellness Center on Tuesday.

The Junior Titans saw their huge margin completely melted since the Blue Eaglets, who opted to sit out Batang Gilas player RV Berjay after re-injuring his shoulder during their quarterfinal clash with Sacred heart-Novaliches, brought their 6-foot-9 beanpole in for most of the second half but finished the game with a huge run to continue their Leicester City-like run to the title.

AMA opened a 47-28 cushion early in the third period, prompting Ateneo Prada to summon Sotto, who appeared to be of great help as they crawled back and tied the game, 58-all, in the fourth.

The U-17 Titans ended the game on an 18-7 run, including two crucial 7-0 blasts, to complete the upset ax.

AMA will take on UPIS in the U-17 final on Saturday at the West Greenhills Gym in San Juan.
