MANILA--Incumbent San Juan vice mayor Francis Zamora failed in his bid to claim the mayoralty post of the said city after Guia Gomez remains the top official after the election was held there.
Gomez was successful in her reelection bid as she was declared the winner after the canvassing of votes on Monday night, just a few hours after the end of the election.
Gomez got 28,828 votes, only 1,222 more than those of Zamora, who was part of La Salle's UAAP men's basketball championship teams of 1998 and 1999 and the 1999 and 2000 championship of PBL club Welcoat, which is now in the PBA as Rain Or Shine.
Francis' father, incumbent San Juan congressman Ronnie, retained his post as the city's representative to the legislative body, beating Jana Ejercito and George Cordero.
Artadi now San Juan councilman
Meanwhile, former PBA point guard Paul Artadi won a seat in the San Juan City Council in what has been a councilmen race filled with familiar faces.
Artadi got the fifth-most votes in San Juan's first district, garnering 11,547 votes. Six people are named councilors for each of San Juan's two districts.
Artadi best became known for his guard tandem with James Yap during their days in UE, ROS in the PBL, and Star, formerly Purefoods.
