BANGKOK--The Gilas Pilipinas Cadets remained perfect in the 2016 SEABA Cup after clobbering the listless Indonesia, 83-52, at Stadium 29, Wednesday.
The Filipinos banked on another balanced attack to trounce their third opponent and claim the top spot with a 3-0 slate.
The Philippines also secured the first spot in the gold medal match of the tournament.
Roger Pogoy and Mike Tolomia top scored the Philippines after finishing 12 points apiece. Pogoy also had four rebounds and four steals, while Tolomia added three rebounds and seven assists.
Kevin Ferrer tallied 10 points, five rebounds and two steals while Mac Belo had an all-around game as recorded eight points, three rebounds, one assist, three blocks and three steals to help the Cadets.
Troy Rosario also contributed nine points and nine boards while Ken Holmqvist mustered seven points and nine rebounds as the Philippines eliminated the Indonesians with their fourth loss in their four games.
Surliyadin Surliyadin once again led the Indonesia with 12 points, five rebounds, five dimes and three steals but failed to get enough from his teammates who individually scored not more than to seven points.
The Philippines will close its elimination round campaign tomorrow when it battle host country Thailand at 7:30 p.m. (Philippine Time).
Gilas was not able to pull away until the latter part of the first quarter as Indonesia rose up to the challenge and answered every Filipino shot with the shots of their own to keep the contest tight.
Up only by a point with three minutes left, the Philippines ignited an 8-0 blitz to close the first frame capped by a Tolomia's jump shot to take a nine-point lead, 25-16, over Indonesia entering the second quarter.
Indonesia failed to stop the surging Philippines as the latter blasted more series of runs as the game wore down.
The Philippines' final blast was during the final canto when it held the Indonesians to only nine points in the entire frame while scoring 23. The Filipinos opened the quarter with a 15-2 run.
